Foreign words

You can tell the gender of most foreign words that have been imported into Russian by their endings. Exceptions are:

евро - "a euro" - is masculine

кофе - "coffee" used to be masculine, probably because when the word was originally imported into Russian it was spelled кофий, and nouns in -й are masculine. A law has now been passed that кофе is neuter, but people still often treat it as masculine!
